1,000 Miles is an indie-folk album about the distance between where we are and where we think we need to be.

Across eleven songs, John West explores escape, love, loss, memory, identity and the search for something more. Some of the stories are personal, others imagined, but each begins with a human experience and asks what lies beneath it.

The album starts with the urge to run. The Escape imagines leaving everything behind with little more than a bag and a guitar. Ebb and Flow questions our desire for life to follow the straight lines we draw for it, while Leaving Today and 1,000 Miles from Home turn physical distance into something more complicated: the realization that home can become a person, an idea, or a life somewhere else.

As the record unfolds, the journey moves inward. Sacred Air and Consumed explore love at its most overwhelming. Echoes and Whispers confronts the voices from our past that continue to shape us. Now turns toward the present moment, while The Witness looks at the opposing forces within us and what it means to choose who we become.

The album closes with Relinquish — not as an act of surrender, but as a challenge. Life will take things from us. Plans fail. People leave. Time moves in only one direction. We can let go of what we cannot control without letting go of ourselves.

Ultimately, 1,000 Miles isn't about how far we travel. It's about what we discover along the way.
